Mechanism of action
X-PUR CariØ® Plus contains a scientifically proven 25% medicinal-grade xylitol formulation, which effectively reduces the cariogenic bacteria load during the colonization and adhesion stages of the caries process. Numerous studies have demonstrated that tooth decay-causing bacteria are unable to metabolize xylitol. This leads to a reduction in lactic acid and polysaccharide production, making X-PUR CariØ® Plus highly effective in preventing the caries process. Additionally, it can reduce both non-cavitated and cavitated lesions and promote remineralization.
25% Xylitol
Reduces cariogenic bacteria load
Cariogenic microorganisms cannot metabolize xylitol, which results in their inability to produce lactic acid or polysaccharide which causes caries.

Directions for use
At least twice a day, for a minimum of three months1
Brush with a film of toothpaste. Expectorate. For optimal results, do not eat, drink or rinse for 30 minutes.
Study against cavities
Comparatively to a fluoride toothpaste, X-PUR CariØ® Plus produces2:
- 60% less non-cavitated lesions
- 80% less cavities
- 40% more remineralized lesions
Average lesions of 201 Kosovar children brushing 2 times per day over 2 years
| Control fluoride toothpaste | X-PUR CariØ® | |
|---|---|---|
| 60% less non-cavitated lesions | 6.4 | 2.6 |
| 80% less cavities | 3.6 | 0.7 |
| 40% more remineralized lesions | 1.9 | 2.7 |
Reduces cariogenic bacteria load of highly infected patients
| Patients studied | Before using X-PUR CariØ® | After using X-PUR CariØ® |
|---|---|---|
| 102 children aged 6 months–2 years after 2 years of brushing3 | 28% without Streptococcus Mutans 17% highly infected | 45% without Streptococcus Mutans 5% highly infected |
| 43 adults after 3 months of brushing4 | 0% without Streptococcus Mutans and Lactobacillus 34% highly infected | 24% without Streptococcus Mutans and Lactobacillus 0.3% highly infected |
| 36 schoolchildren in 3 groups brushing for 1, 2 or 3 months | — | Reduction of bacteria load after 3 months. Results were maintained even 6 months after stopping using X-PUR CariØ® |
More than 12 years of research proving its efficacy
Since 1952, fluoride has been the most widely used therapeutic agent in toothpaste. However, for patients highly infected by cariogenic bacteria (100,000 Streptococcus mutans/mL of saliva), which represents a significant percentage of your patients, fluoride toothpaste may not offer optimal removal of cariogenic bacteria, despite its remineralization properties.
Dr. Jacques Véronneau, a clinician, researcher, and cariologist in Canada, began his journey more than 12 years ago to find an effective therapeutic agent to reduce the cariogenic bacteria load. His research included conducting studies with 99 Kosovar children to evaluate the efficacy of a 25% xylitol toothpaste against cariogenic bacteria.
The results were conclusive, leading Oral Science to launch the first Canadian 25% medicinal-grade xylitol toothpaste.
Clinical observations on periodontitis
Medical treatment of periodontal disease requires the identification of the pathological activity threshold of bacteria. An explanatory study of nine high-risk patients using X-PUR CariØ® Plus showed a 78% reduction of these bacteria after brushing for three months.5
