Oral Science Protocol
Optimal Treatment Of Tooth Sensitivity
High Performance Relief From Tooth Sensitivity
Tooth sensitivity can appear after restorative procedures, bleaching, orthodontics, or from everyday causes such as recession, grinding, acidic diets and hard brushing.
This protocol pairs a fast-acting in-office desensitizer — X-PUR Crystal®, which forms nanocrystals that seal the dentinal tubules — with home-care solutions that remove biofilm atraumatically and coat exposed dentin.
Eight chairside applications cover the most common clinical scenarios, from painful teeth to bracket removal.
Tooth Sensitivity
When clients present with any of the following:
Painful Tooth
After Intracoronal Preparation
Extracoronal Crown Preparation
Heavy Calculus Along Cervical Neck
Pain Due To Biting Forces
Before & After Bleaching
Pain From Removal Of Orthodontic Bracket
Sensitivity To Cold
In-Office Treatment
Natural, non-toxic & fast-acting for high performance relief from tooth sensitivity

X-PUR Crystal®
High Performance Relief From Tooth Sensitivity — Do not etch: X-PUR Crystal®’s low pH formulation dissolves immediately, does not harm soft tissues, and removes the smear layer.
- Clean and rinse the area of all foreign debris (biofilm or other particles). X-PUR Crystal® is more effective after rinsing the mouth with warm water and gently brushing the teeth without toothpaste.
- Place 1 to 2 drop(s) into a clean well of your choice or a dappen dish. You may need more drops depending on the size and number of teeth.
- Using a sterile micro brush, microsponge or small cotton pellet, soak the area and gently rub it onto the affected surface(s) for 20 seconds.
- Allow X-PUR Crystal® to sit and gently air dry for 20 seconds at approximately five inches away without any air blast.
- If you do not experience the desired relief, you may perform a second or third application without any tissue damage.
- Clinical tip: any appearance of a frosty-white surface indicates the blockage of the dentin tubules. May be applied to a damp surface and dabbed around crown margins and onto exposed roots sensitive to cold or air stimuli. No light curing is necessary.
Clinical Applications
When and how to apply X-PUR Crystal® chairside
1. Patient Presents With Painful Tooth
- Take a radiograph. Place X-PUR Crystal® around the entire margin of the restoration to allow it to rapidly penetrate the tooth and form nanocrystals that seal the dentinal tubules.
- Tip: if the pain stops, it is possible the cause was fluid flow in the dentine and not pulpal inflammation.
2. After Intracoronal Preparation
- Rub X-PUR Crystal® onto all dentin & enamel surfaces immediately after preparation.
- Tip: do not etch, as X-PUR Crystal has removed the smear layer and left a bio crystal layer.
3. Extracoronal Crown Preparation
- Place X-PUR Crystal® immediately onto the entire dentin-enamel surface after final preparation.
- Tip: after removal of the temporary crown, use X-PUR Crystal again to assist in removing any cement before final cementation.
4. Exposed Cementum & Its Loss Below Enamel Crown
- Use a pellet to apply X-PUR Crystal® directly onto all root surfaces & areas around the neck of the tooth adjacent to the gingiva for 20 seconds.
- Tip: allow X-PUR Crystal to remain on the tooth for 20 sec. to allow the chelation.
5. Heavy Calculus Along Cervical Neck
- Place X-PUR Crystal® before any needle injection for your patient. Place it on calculus to soften and reduce its tenacity and assist in its removal.
6. Pain Due To Biting Forces
- Place X-PUR Crystal® completely around the entire restoration.
- Tip: look for a shiny spot of wear from the opposing tooth that suggests heavy occlusion.
7. Before & After Bleaching
- Apply X-PUR Crystal® to all tooth surfaces before and after bleaching (cementum, dentin and enamel).
8. Pain After Removal Of Orthodontic Bracket
- Place X-PUR Crystal® onto all enamel surfaces immediately before and after removal of the bracket.
Home-Care Treatment
A significant problem often contributing to tooth sensitivity: ineffective and/or hard brushing
1. Atraumatic Biofilm Removal
Home-Care Treatment
CURAPROX Toothbrushes & CUREN® bristles (CS 5460 Ultra Soft, CS Smart Ultra Soft, CS 12460 Velvet) — up to 10x more bristles, ultra-soft, octagonal handle to help brush at the right angle, longer polyester bristles that do not bend; excessive pressure is unnecessary.
Regular toothbrushes are often part of the problem: only 500 to 800 hard, thick nylon bristles that absorb water and bacteria, wear down quickly and require hard pressure — contributing to gingival recession and ineffective biofilm removal.
2. Coat And Fill Exposed Dentin And Dentinal Tubules
Home-Care Treatment
X-PUR Remin — Nano Medical Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste. SLS free, low abrasivity (RDA of 60), neutral pH (7.51), lightly flavored, sweetened with 10% xylitol, 100% natural: GMO, gluten and sugar free.
At least 2 times a day: brush with a film of toothpaste, expectorate, and do not eat, drink or rinse for 30 minutes.
